Weekend in Review
This past weekend was a busy one indeed!
Friday, we went into town early for Mason’s speech therapy appointment only to find out that it had been canceled. We had to do some shopping anyway, but we decided to take the boys to do “something fun” (as Mason calls it) before. We took the boys to the park to expel some excess energy on the playground and feed the geese.
I’m not going to lie, I LOVE feeding geese. If I could have a pet goose, I absolutely would. Tommy, on the other hand, is not about that life. He likes feeding them, but he isn’t for having one as a pet. I might be able to persuade him one day…
Jensen was a HUGE fan of them. He takes after his Mama and LOVES animals. He’s going to be my future partner in crime when it comes to adopting animals and having a farm. He loved the geese a little too much, though. He wanted to pet one so bad, but naturally, there weren’t going to let that happen.
Mason likes feeding the geese, but he prefers to run around like a crazy person and test out all the playground equipment. Since he has more energy than the Energizer Bunny, I’m not opposed to him running wild at the playground. It’s usually pretty difficult to get him to take a nap, so half an hour at the playground almost always guarantees a decent nap when we get home. Winning!
Saturday was our one chill day over the weekend. Tommy had to work and so the boys and I just kinda hung out at the house. I knew we were going to have an especially busy day Sunday, so I wanted a day to rest (after all, I’m 26 weeks pregnant!) and relax in the calm before the storm.
Tommy and I share a birthday and it was Sunday. It was so amazing to wake up and hear Mason say, “Happy Birthday, Mommy.” It meant so much hearing it from him and makes my heart melt just to think about. Tommy turned the big 3-0, while I’m on the last year of my 20’s. My goal for this year is to really enjoy myself and make it a year to be proud of, a year that I can look back on and know that I lived it to the fullest. I want to come out of my 20’s with a bang.
For our birthday, we decided to forego doing anything big for us and do something together as a family instead. Jurassic Quest just so happened to be coming to town for this weekend only.
It was perfect timing and we knew Mason would be thrilled since he is dinosaur OBSESSED.
He was actually pretty terrified at first. The dinosaurs were HUGE. And animatronic. Mason was legitimately scared that we were all going to get eaten. It took a lot of calming on our part to get him to quit climbing his daddy like a tree. Jensen, however, being Mr. Fearless, was thrilled. He roared back at the dinosaurs. They were just another animal to him. It was actually pretty adorable.
Out of all the things we could have done to celebrate, I think we made a good choice. They had a ton of different things to do. There were several bounce houses and slides, fossil digs, face painting, coloring activities, and dinosaur rides. They had a snack area and a little gift shop. We couldn’t pass up cotton candy and Mason was going to just die if he didn’t get to go on a bounce slide. The boys are still a little too young (read: impatient) to wait in line (and there were lines for everything) so we didn’t get to do a lot of the activities, but as our first real outing to an event like this, it went pretty well.
After our fun with the dinosaurs, we headed home to enjoy dinner and cake! My grandmother makes this AMAZING chocolate chip cake that is SO moist and delicious and it has become our official birthday cake. It’s the only cake that Tommy and I eat for our birthday. Except cheesecake. There’s always room for cheesecake. Mmmmm.
He’s such a goofball. Seriously, the pictures of him that aren’t silly are few and far between. He’s always got to make some kind of crazy face. But that’s my hubby and I wouldn’t change him for anything. He keeps things interesting. I think I’ll keep him around.
All in all, it was a great birthday weekend and everyone had a blast. Tommy and I really enjoyed ourselves and wouldn’t trade spending our special day with our boys (and baby bump) for any big party or to do. And who doesn’t want to celebrate their birthday with dinosaurs and chocolate cake?
